Yesterday, I talked about colors, but I didn’t mention the color white. A study of white reveals that it comprises all the colors. If you don’t know about light, this may not make sense. Before I get too deep into white being made of a rainbow of light, I’ll move on to a specific discussion of clouds. They are mainly white, but it is a mixer of gray that gives them shape. Clouds fascinate people because they are mysterious and always changing. Two people can look at the same cloud and see different things. They inspire creativity just by existing.
My favorite thing about clouds are the different creatures that appear in them. I see creatures all around me all day long on the ground, in random patterns, and in items I use every day. Clouds are special because they constantly change in seemingly random ways, but there is always a pattern that develops. The wind is painting with white, and the thickness of the paint creates shadows. It is a 3-D painting with precipitation. The angle you view the cloud changes what you see. Your own imagination also changes what you see. I see many images in the same cloud formation. Some unfortunate people only see clouds.
When people talk about the weather, they always mention clouds if clouds are present. Clouds bring rain, they show how fast the wind is moving, and they are the clearest example of the weather in action. Visualizing a warm front is difficult, but seeing a cloud form and become dark lets us see how the rain is collecting and will soon fall. When you see clouds, you know to expect the possibility of rain. This changes what you wear, whether you bring an umbrella, and help you decide where you will go. If you see clouds in the sky, you probably won’t head to the beach.
When rain falls from clouds, people associate this with feeling sad. Cartoons depict rain clouds following sad people around. Some people get depressed in cloudy weather, while others enjoy the clouds and rain that waters their gardens. There is a general gloomy feeling that hits people when clouds are gray. The haze hits our eyes and infects our thinking. Negative feelings come out and conflicts with other people just seem to happen. Minor irritations become blown out of proportion. The weather affects us more than any other environmental factor. We want to know when the clouds are going away, except in summer when we wish for the shade of clouds to shield us from the sun.
Some people associate clouds with heaven. I mention it because it is a cultural image. If they see the sun shining through the clouds, they see a heavenly light. I just see a cool effect of the light through the clouds. It’s like a spotlight from the sky. I see the beauty of nature, and they see a miracle in the sky. Their beliefs trivialize my appreciation of what is happening. People often say that nature’s beauty is proof of a divine creation. I think the Cloud City in Star Wars is a better example of inspired creation. The reality of clouds is much more interesting than picturing supernatural beings existing within them. I wonder if there are no clouds in the sky, do they think heaven goes away?
My last subject on clouds is cloud types. Different clouds appear at different elevations, while other clouds can appear at any elevation. Cumulonimbus clouds are the most common type. It’s the cloud most people think of when they think of a cloud. I won’t go into all the other types because that would be boring. There is one type of cloud that is interesting because it forms a specific shape. What is the shape? It’s the shape of a flying saucer. If you saw it in Roswell, New Mexico, you would suspect it was a promotional air balloon. It is called a lenticular cloud. They are quite rare, but when you see one, you will never forget it.
In full disclosure, I saw the UFO cloud several months past the date of this article. I was walking in my backyard and saw it in the sky. I looked it up online to see if anyone saw it that day but only found past references of the phenomenon. The one I saw was so perfectly saucer shaped I wondered if people were going to believe it was real. I posted it and showed it to people at work. Being known as an aggressively honest person finally paid off. No one questioned whether it was real. They only questioned what kind of weather would create such a thing. It’s about time we get our heads out of the clouds and back to what’s important. I don’t know what that is for you, but for me that’s my cats.
