Today, I’d like to talk about the phrase “Ignorance is bliss.” The original line from a Thomas Gray poem is “Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise.” My only problem with the phrase in modern times is that it only considers the ignorant person. Not caring about other people is the definition of not being a good person. Bullies seem like they don’t care about other people. If that is true, then they are psychopaths. Trump fits this definition. Information is his enemy. When you don’t care about other people, no one cares about you. It is widely known by people who have interacted with him that he has no friends.
Ignorance is only bliss to the ignorant. When you declare you are happy in your ignorance, you are lying to the world. True ignorance means you are powerless. When we are powerless, we lose control over our lives. This may seem contradictory in Trump’s case, but it’s the people around him that must deal with his willful ignorance. He has no idea how to do anything, so it’s up to his people to deal with his ignorant rantings. When in doubt, claim you were joking.
One part of ignorance I need to address is being ignorant of misinformation. Trump is famous for the phrase “fake news.” This means any information he disagrees with. I don’t watch or listen to the news, but Patti makes sure I’m always apprised of the top stories. Most of the top stories these days involve the idiotic things that Trump’s people have implemented to keep their jobs. Most of the people Trump appointed to his cabinet are just as ignorant as he is. You can ignore most information when all you care about is money and power.
Another side of misinformation is rumors. In every place I’ve worked, rumors were the only thing some people wanted to talk about. If the rumor was positive, they seemed less interested. When people tell me rumors, I take them all with a grain of salt. I ignore most of them because most of them turn out to be exaggerated or false. Rumors depend on interpreting facts toward a certain goal. The gossiper reaches conclusions based on as little as someone else’s word. Someone’s words do not equal facts. Trump is the perfect example of this.
Speaking of ignorance, I would like to distinguish it from a lack of life experience. Other people in their life have sheltered them from information. This has been Trump’s background. Coming from a rich family isolated him from reality. All he knows is a want for money and power. He is ignorant because of his lack of life experience. Not having anyone in his life that cares about him beyond his money and power has led him to have no voice of reason in his life. The only reason in his life is the pursuit of power. Every conversation he ever has involves him gauging his own power to other people’s.
I apologize to those who become enraged when discussing Trump. I was only going to talk about the phrase “ignorance is bliss,” but he was the perfect example of what I was talking about. In the past, I have purposely stayed away from talking about him more than a passing mention. I have tried to remove hate from my life, and he lives his life with nothing but hate for himself, those who oppose him, and everyone else. Everyone else is to blame for how miserable he is. He’s just too ignorant to know how miserable he has made himself. I wish ghosts existed so they could come to him and teach him this. He would just scream at them that they were fake news.
