Our Hermit Crab, Peacock, and Rooster Friends – Thoughts from June 16 to 18, 2023

June 16, 2023

It’s Friday and I think we all know what that means. Usually, it means grocery shopping at home, but today it’s vacation shopping. Patti is looking for a bag for the cat sitter and guardian of our girls while we’re here in paradise. We lost water this morning before we could shower. This didn’t affect Patti as much because she usually showers at night. I find it hard to face the day without a shower, even on vacation. I sucked it up and left the room, feeling slightly off.

Saturday is the day. Vacationing is the way. We were just swimming in the pool. Okay, I was swimming. Patti was mainly drinking at the pool bar. I showed her the tiny hermit crab that was hanging on one tile at the side of the pool. He was moving when I first saw him, but he was just hanging when Patti got there. The obnoxious women who is never not obnoxious starting screaming for the volleyball net. That was our cue to make our way out of the pool. Competition ruins everything – especially your skin. Now, I’m sitting under an umbrella on a pool lounger and Patti is off smoking. Hopefully, this will be our last smoking vacation.

I decided that people who do not notice or acknowledge animals are horrible people. People have mostly ignored a black rooster with red feathers for a hat. As if he could sense me typing about him, he walked up beside me. I took his picture. Yesterday, we were hanging out with a peacock. Patti was doing her usual, “kitty, kitty, kitty,” at him. He did not respond. We’ve only seen one cat on our trip so far. This is unacceptable, but makes sense with all the birds running around. I’m sure we just need to find out where they hang out.

Sunday is fun day. We don’t have any reservations today so we’re going to do whatever seems the most fun. Last night, we had Asian cuisine. It was very good and way too filling. I’m way off my normal diet at this point. We were talking about whether we want to eat lunch or dinner next. Patti said she’s not hungry. I agreed. A man came by where we were on the beach and offered us some fruit sticks. These were pieces of fruit on skewers. I said, “Great! Now we’re going to be even less hungry.” These are vacation problems. You only see them as problems when you’re on vacation.

We saw the rooster again today. He started cock-a-doodle-dooing. Keep in mind, this was about 2:15 in the afternoon. The sun did not go away and come back. He just picked a spot in the shade and did his thing. I videoed at least one performance. Of course, he heard me typing about him just now and he walked by us. I also videoed that. He’s the star of our vacation. Patti said she saw two cats fighting last night outside our room. I don’t count it as a cat sighting because I was sleeping. Patti can include it in her Thoughts paper (if she had one). She said it surprised her I didn’t hear it. Every time she says this, I have to point out that I wear earplugs and an eye mask. I don’t hear or see anything, especially if I’m asleep. The next thing that happens while I’m asleep, she’ll act surprised again.

Patti is reading a paperback book right now. She has a paper white Kindle, but she still buys physical books. I’m writing these words you’re reading right now. I told Patti we should probably get up soon because my butt was numb. As soon as I typed this, she was ready to get up. Bye from Vacation Land for now.
