We just had the time change where we gain an hour, but my body is still acting like I got less sleep. Patti said it’s seasonal affective disorder. I think my body is rebelling against the stupid time change that needs to go away. Hopefully, future readers of Thoughts from Life will look back on this time and wonder what I’m talking about. I can only hope my words will confuse you, future reader. How are you enjoying the flying cars? What? You don’t have flying cars? You mean they were a stupid idea from the beginning? (Present note: I’m just assuming that’s how the discussion will go with you, my future reader.)
These next few paragraphs are something I don’t normally talk about, but Patti will enjoy them. Yesterday, something happened that Patti was very excited about. If you know what happened, this paragraph is for you too. I will probably get the facts wrong, so I will avoid including too many of them. The Dodgers were playing in the World Series. Patti had been on edge throughout the series because the team had been up and down a few times. Like I said, I will not interrupt the story with facts. What I knew was that Patti went from yelling at the TV to cheering in delight. I’ve told her in the past that I don’t like it when I hear yelling from the other room. It scares the cats and, more importantly, me. I missed most of the games because I was at work. Could I have watched them at work? Yes, but Patti has forbidden me to watch them because she declared me a jinx years ago.
Being declared a jinx didn’t bother me because it’s just another reason I don’t like sports. Patti knows this, and she married me anyway. Not being able to watch something I don’t want to watch anyway is not the worst thing. It becomes difficult to do when others insist on putting the game on in the breakroom where I take my lunch. Facing away from the TV screen and putting in earbuds is as close as I can get. When other people yell in excitement, I can’t help but notice. It was the eleventh inning, and it was close for both teams. Don’t ask me who the other team was. I can easily look it up (and did), but I’m keeping true to my “no facts” declaration. Will Smith had something to do with it, but not the one who slapped Chris Rock.
When the ultimate moment happened and they won the World Series, I knew it from the cheers that rang out. To be honest, I had been watching the numbers on my phone, so I knew when to congratulate Patti. In my mind, I refuse to accept that any fan has anything to do with their favorite team winning, but I knew Patti was excited. People who are not Patti irritate me when they refer to “their” team. They are not members of the team or owners. It really irritates me when people say “we” need to focus “our” sports blah blah on the other sports blah blah. I feel the same about this that I do when people talk about what a movie could have done to be better. If you didn’t write, direct, or produce the film, like it as it is or talk about a movie you did like.
Hopefully, there weren’t too many facts in this article for people like me who are bored by sports facts as I am. I looked up some things because I didn’t want to disturb Patti. The Dodgers were the 2025 World Series champions. That’s the important thing. The time changed, and the Dodgers won. Need I say more. No.
