Continued Remodeling, No Kings, and Outside Cats – Thoughts from October 19, 2025 – Part 2

This is part two of my article from October 19, but you know that from reading the title. When I was last blathering on about Patti’s kitchen remodel, I talked about nature’s body glue. Actually, it was about a cracked cabinet that we had to return. Because we had to return it, I couldn’t build the base for the upper cabinet I was converting to a lower cabinet. Now you have all the context to return to the subject at hand. Now, pretend the next paragraph is the first paragraph of this article.

As of this writing, I haven’t been able to even plan building the base for the cabinet. This September remodel of the kitchen for Patti’s birthday is now in October, and we haven’t even started the sink cabinet. That’s going to be even harder than the rest of the cabinets. I’ve dealt with putting in an air vent for the future stove and putting in a corner cabinet on one wall, but this is going to be tough. We have the cabinet and the sink. We still need a faucet. Hopefully, we can get one of those cool removable hoses like we had at our old house. When we get to it, the difficulty factor is going to be all the way up to eleven.

Enough about Patti’s kitchen remodel. What else is going on in Patti’s life? Since her retirement, her new thing seems to be protests. America! The protests are all about the hateful asshat who horrible people allowed to be President again despite being impeached twice and convicted of 34 felony counts. They are part of the “No Kings” protests happening all over the country. She made signs and got other people to go with her, including friends and family. She knows it’s not actually going to change things directly, but it’s better than doing nothing. Being with other people who are just as pissed off about what is happening to America as you helps her deal with it. I just avoid watching or listening to any news.

And now something only partially involving Patti. We have an outside cat whom we named Archie because he’s orange. As we’ve found out, like most orange male cats, he is quite vocal. He screams to get food, to get attention, and just to tell us about his day. A few weeks back, we saw he had a collar on his neck. Since we didn’t put the collar on him, we knew he had another house besides ours. We long suspected this was true but now we know it. Within a day or two, the collar was gone. If he has another house he visits, ours seems to be his favorite.

A big draw for Archie to our house is the four female cats inside it. The girls seem to get along fine with him these days. He’s constantly trying to get into the house. Patti got him a bed to sleep in at night because it has been getting cold lately. It’s not his regular spot, but he uses it. It is still an ongoing discussion to let Archie inside the house. We feel sorry for him being outside with the cold weather and having to defend his territory, but there is no easy way to integrate all the cats. We don’t even know if he would accept using a litter box. The inside cats already have their own issues. Some of them still don’t use the litter box correctly. Adding to those issues is not something we can do lightly.
