It has been so long since I wrote my thoughts, I had to make a list of things I haven’t written about. First on the list is finishing painting the house. Let me say that again for those in the back. We finished painting the house! The last thing we did was put up new ten-foot trim boards that were at a ten-degree angle. I had to get out a protractor to find out the angle and cut the wood. It felt as if we were doing a full-fledged remodel on the house. I did all of it, including the angle cuts, on my little table saw. Patti praised me for what I did, and the cats lavished me with attention. They do that all the time but it’s nice when it happens. It was a learning experience, which means I screwed up at times. I’m just glad it’s done.
Speaking of the cats, we have been watching Willow for a while now because of her frequent choking. Patti took her to the vet, and we found out she has asthma. The vet prescribed medication and we’ve been administering that for several days now. Part of it is two liquid medications that we need to squirt in her mouth. One thing we know about cats is they dislike it when you mess with their mouths. We also have two types of inhalers. The inhalers are the same that they use for humans. The only difference is they need as adapter over their mouth. We ordered the adapter online, and it was delivered the next day but to the wrong house. Eventually we got it and used it on Willow. When we’ve given her the inhaler, she doesn’t freak out as much as when we squirt the medication in her mouth. The liquid gets more on her fur than it does in her mouth.
Now we’ll get to the ongoing issue of my throat. The doctor scheduled my throat surgery on May 22. That is in four days. I had a Zoom appointment with someone from the surgery center, and they told me about the surgery and leading up to it. Luckily, Patti was sitting beside me and took notes. The procedure is going to take about 20 minutes, and they will knock me out for it. I think it’s a general anesthetic. I can’t have any money or credit cards on me, so Patti is going to have that stuff and she needs to drive me home. When I mention the surgery to people, they ask if I’m scared. Probably because it’s my first surgery, I’m not nervous about it. I don’t have a history of past surgeries to worry about or compare it to. As surgeries go, this is minor, but it’s my first.
The things I’ve mentioned so far have been serious things. It’s time to lighten things up. I was doing lawn work a while back and I was looking at this bush in our backyard that needed trimming soon. I’ve trimmed the bush as a ball, mostly. Looking at it, I thought I could try shaping it like a heart when I trimmed it. I told my plan to Patti, and she loved the idea. Heart-shaped things are one of Patti’s favorite things. When I started trimming, I was thinking of a simple heart-shaped cube. The more I trimmed, I realized it could be a full 3-D curved heart. I wasn’t trimming a bush. This was a sculpture. It took me back to my 3-D modeling days. I took a picture of it and showed people at work. They seemed impressed.
