Drugs and Fairies in a Capitalist Society – Thoughts from April 19 and 23, 2023

I just heard on the radio someone referencing 4/20 tomorrow. It’s a pot head holiday. I think it’s the same station that plays Bob Marley at 4:20 in the afternoon. They made a joke about hot boxing a taxi. I understand these references, but don’t find them funny. Marijuana has never been part of my life. No one has offered me pot or any other mind-altering substance. I thank my nerdy ways for that. When I was younger, they didn’t believe me when I said I never did drugs. They couldn’t imagine a guy with such weird thoughts could have those thoughts without drugs. When I say or write weird things, it is from intentional weird thoughts that I have crafted to be as they are. Others find them weird, but to me they’re just thoughts. My mind works differently than other people and I use that to my advantage. Others may need drugs to have the thoughts I have, but I have them naturally.

I was driving yesterday and saw a petite woman walking with wings on. Her outfit was reminiscent of a fairy, but it was definitely a regular top and skirt. She had bare feet and was excitedly looking at the ground. Her short hair added to the fairy look, but it was also reminiscent of someone who cuts her own hair without the proper tools. I tried to see her as a whimsical person who was having her own version of fun. Unfortunately, the entire picture added up to a person with mental problems. The wings looked like she found them in a dumpster somewhere. It reminded me of the people who wear sad looking costumes in Las Vegas asking for money to take a picture with them. It’s a reminder that capitalism only works for those who are born into privilege.

Capitalism and socialism seem to be the extremes. They are systems with positive and negative aspects. Capitalism is too big and socialism is too small to work. I often wonder what system we could have if we prioritized reality instead of catering to religion, the super rich, and powerful people. We will probably never know, but I can dream. Instead of worshiping money, supernatural beings, and false idols, we could accept reality. We could teach our kids about reality and not false histories, useless information, and competitive thinking that dominates our classrooms. Jewish parents wouldn’t have to send their kids to Catholic schools. These schools wouldn’t be the only ones capable of properly educating their students. Atheist parents wouldn’t have to teach their kids about atheism. Religion would no longer be something you have to not believe in. Reality acceptance would be the new reality denial.

I was talking with Patti the other day. It concerned the atheism in my Thoughts papers and other writings. Listening to many other authors reading their memoirs tells me that only popular writers can mention being an atheist. Most writers write with religious language throughout their writings. Admittedly, it’s difficult to write in English without using these words. Even swearing is hard to do without using God, Jesus, or hell. If you’re in an environment where sensitive ears aren’t an issue, you can replace most of these swear phrases with “crap” or the “F” word. As you can tell, I will use “crap” but not the other one. If I become a famous author, it’s something I’m going to have to deal with. I don’t see atheism being accepted by most people any time soon.
