It seems like I am the only old person who is relatively happy with the way things are today. I heard several conversations today from older people who were complaining about what they could do or buy that they can’t anymore. When I’m waxing nostalgic, I’m usually talking about how much better things are than they used to be. Yes, everything was cheaper back then, life seemed simpler, and fewer people were competing for everything. Things are better for more people. That just means there is less for each person today. If you were well off in the past, you need to be even richer today to have the same wealth. If you were poor in the past, you should be better off today. Things have changed. How you perceive those changes depends on your view of the changes. People who dislike change (like old people) will view it negatively. I love change. Change is exciting and new. Come aboard. We’re expecting you. That reference is for other old people like me, but not the old people who don’t like change.

Why are Harley-Davidson motorcycles legal? They are way too loud, their drivers are A-holes, and they get worse gas mileage than other motorcycles. They actual get worse gas mileage than my Honda Civic. Every time one passes by me, I am filled with rage. That most of them are owned by rich white A-holes should tell you everything you need to know about them. (Future note: Yes, I did actual research to find this information out. I didn’t have to do any research on my Honda Civic because I always know what my gas mileage is. As for the drivers being A-holes, I just looked up A-holes in the Brian Kirwan Dictionary and there was a picture of a CEO on a Harley-Davidson.)

I’m always fascinated by people who don’t seem to have any interests. In talking to them, I can usually get them to come up with at least a few interests, but only a few. I’m interested in so many things, I have a problem choosing only a few to talk about. I start talking about one interest, but end up talking about several of my interests before I run out of time to talk about more. It’s sad when people have a hard time coming up with things they are interested in. They either are embarrassed about what interests them or they truly find life boring and uninteresting. It’s fine to be interested in things that other people find boring. You should be able to talk to someone who is also interested in that subject with enthusiasm. Enthusiasm looks different coming from different people, but you should be able to tell what subjects they are interested in.
One thing I’m interested in is writing. I’m doing it right now. I find it fascinating how ideas go from thoughts to words that other people can read and understand. Most ideas get conveyed to others with words. There may be drawings or other forms of conveyance, but only words can get across complex subjects. The more complex something is, the more it interests me. Complex concepts are like puzzles that require extra effort to solve. You must understand more than one subject and piece them together to begin understanding the subject. The writers job is to use as few words as they can to convey the complexity. You cannot simplify some subjects without losing the complexity of them.
