Missing a Cat Named Slash – Thoughts from November 16, 2011

(Future note: The following are the words I wrote for the Three Girl Cats blog I started for Slash, Blaze, and Quest. They were born on June 3rd, 2009, and she died November 15, 2011. It was the final entry for the blog and my final words about Slash.)

Unfortunately, this is the last posting for Slash and possibly this blog. Slash was killed in the street in front of our house yesterday. Don’t tell Quest or Blaze, but Slash was my favorite. When I would come home from work at night, she would always run into my office, jump up on a chair, and wait for me to put my stuff away. She knew when my undershirt and socks came off, they went on her back. She would then drag them through the house. It was our thing.

Slash’s name came from Patti (Slash’s human mom). It was chosen for her because it looks like she has a mustache. She was the originator of “mauling time.” Mauling time was not as violent as it sounds. It was the time just before I took my shower in the morning. She learned she could get a good petting and scratching from me. Being technically allergic to cats, I always had to wash my hands after petting Slash. Just last night, Patti fed Blaze and Quest. Slash was not there to push her face into the can of food as Patti put it on their dish. It was hard to get mad at her because she was so darn cute when she was doing it. We found out who was the biggest consumer of the food, as there was more than half the food left on the plate when Blaze and Quest were finished eating.

In a final tribute to how she lived, we put her body in a cardboard box. She always loved boxes so I know she would be happy.

Goodbye, Slash. You are loved and will always be missed.
