Large Tree Roots Under the Driveway – Thoughts from September 9, 2003

Tuesday seems to be the day to write my thoughts (all right, type them). Since last Tuesday, we found out from our Insurance company that we needed to fix our driveway before we could continue our insurance on the house. We investigated and found this asphalt patching material that could repair the asphalt. We knew, however, that more than just repairing the asphalt had to be done. We had to pull up the old asphalt in sections and remove the large tree roots under the asphalt. We worked all weekend and even took a sick day to finish up on Monday (but you didn’t hear that from me as I type this at work). The official reason for my staying home was I was so sore. It wasn’t all together untrue. I was and still am sore. I haven’t been doing my regular stair walk up to the 4th floor today. I am not half energized, I’m half pooped. The glass is, however, half full of my sweat. We’re still not really done. We still need to put more asphalt over most of the messed-up driveway. I’m hoping I will be unbroken by next week so we can enjoy our vacation.

Yes, we’re taking another vacation to Laughlin. We’re going to ride the Sea-Doos again. We both have brand new water shoes for the occasion. It’s Patti’s birthday trip. The goal, as always, is to win a lot of money so we can hire people to do what is needed for the house. It’s not really the goal in that we really think it is going to happen. It’s the goal in that we’re hoping it happens so we can consider it part of our grand scheme of life. Everyone should have a grand scheme of life. It’s all the rage.

If the driveway asphalting didn’t happen this weekend, I would have finished my office. I’m finished enough with it to bring in furniture, but it will be this next weekend before I can actually bring it in and arrange it. I’ve created an excel document that blocks out the furniture and where I’m going to place it (in case you worried I was losing my nerdiness). I went through several different designs, but I finally came up with a layout that seems to work best all around. There’s actually some furniture I added to the design I don’t have yet. It’s all about efficiency and finding things with ease.

What’s the deal RE animation? (Future note: Patti was fond of saying “RE” at this time. She pronounced it like “see.” It was from emails that said, “RE: [subject]”. It means regarding, but that took too long for Patti. She would regularly say, “What RE?” It was kind of like a secret language between us, but she used it on other people and confused most of them.) I haven’t done any animation in years. Actually, I did that Flash ball with a tail, but that was several months ago. I’ve drawn here and there (mainly there), but the Animation Master animation or even Flash animation has been put on hold. “The boys” have actually gotten into animation thanks to my old Animation Master disk. (For an explanation on who “the boys” are, see the next paragraph or remember back to when I’ve probably told you before. Don’t you ever listen?) My most resent disk is Animation Master 2000. I think theirs is the ’98 version. When I get back to my computing, I’m going to have a dedicated workstation for animation, video, and audio only. There will be another workstation for the Internet and my writings.

As promised in the last paragraph, this paragraph will describe who “the boys” are. Patti’s twin nephews have been named “the boys.” We are currently their favorite aunt and uncle. They both seem very much into building things on the computer. Matt is always online talking to Patti through AOL’s IM’s. (Future note: AOL or America Online was still big in 2003. IMs were “instant messages” that were eventually replaced by texts. It was a way of instantly talking to someone in the form of a text. You know, texting.) He also seems more into animating than Dan. They’ve both said they want to be programmers when they grow up. I’m hoping I can, at least, get them into game programming so they can do something interesting for a job. I know all too well what it’s like having a job you’re so bored at that you have to come up with such things as Thoughts papers to take your mind away from it.

As if that weren’t enough … actually, I think it is enough. Weird ways and pleasant days!
