Thoughts from April 8 and June 19, 2002

April 8, 2002

This Thoughts paper should be much lighter in nature than my normal thoughts paper. This is mainly because I’m forcing myself to be lighter. Well, that didn’t last long. Actually, in my life right now there are several serious things going on. Luckily, only one serious thing is going on for me directly. First, let’s begin with the funny (though not fun) stuff.

Truck, the amazing three-legged cat detective, has had a trauma recently. We took her to the Emergency Vet last Saturday because she was looking and acting sick. They gave her antibiotics for her main problem, which seemed to make her better. While we were there, we found out she has diabetes. Yes, a cat with diabetes. We took her to a regular Vet, and she is already on Insulin twice a day. I am the one and only administrator of the shots, as Patti does not handle needles well. I actually find it kind of cool. I never had a problem with needles and Truck doesn’t really even notice it. She also has to eat special cat food (which PETsMART doesn’t even sell – only the Vet has it) that is made for diabetic cats.

(Future note: The grammar checker was telling me I misspelled PetSmart. I looked up the Wikipedia page for PetSmart and found out they changed their name from PETsMART to PetSmart in 2005. I wasn’t just making up my own weird spelling. They made up the weird spelling and changed it to something less awkward. Thank you, Wikipedia!)

Last week, Patti and I went on a cruise for the first time. We ate and ate and ate and ate and ate. The food is excellent, and the service is outstanding. There was entertainment, including comedians, shows, and games. We stopped in Ensenada and Catalina. They had midnight buffets with ice sculptures and carved food. There was a hairy chest contest (I didn’t enter because I am me). It was all pretty fun.

This week, I’m back at work. I’m at work right now as I type this. The buzz of people getting employed can be heard all around me. I wanted to get the digital video camera before the cruise, but that didn’t happen. Now, they’re saying there will be a further 14-day delay because the item is back-ordered. I’m going to order through someone else, but I just want the video camera. I’ve already read the manual for the camera from cover to cover, so I know everything I’m going to do with it. I just need the camera so I can do those things that I know I can do with it. I thought the camera was going to arrive while we were on the ship, but it didn’t. It was going to go to Patti’s mom’s house. I made Patti call her mom as soon as we got back.

I didn’t walk during the cruise, but I’ve been walking every day since. I should specify that I’m talking about the jog/walking I do for exercise. I didn’t crawl the whole cruise. I’m tired of putting on my pants every morning and wondering how they shrank since I last put them on the week before. Patti is back at work. She’s been off because of her foot surgery for about 2 months. The only reason I mention this now is because it has been quite easy to walk because I haven’t had to pick Patti up at work. She gets off at 5:30pm. This means it’s at least 6:00pm before I’m home and probably 7:00pm until I’m done eating. I like to wait 2 hours before I walk so that’s 9:00pm before I begin. I walk for about 35 minutes. After I wind down and take a shower, it’s about 10:30pm. If life were perfect, I would be in bed about 9:00pm. So much for perfection. I’m going to have to come up with a different plan. Perhaps I’ll walk right when I get home. I’ll try that today. I brought a bagel with me. I can eat it and it hopefully won’t give me too much cramping or other problems. (Future note: People in olden days used to worry about cramping after eating. This was most notably said about swimming, but it extended to any food consumption before any physical exercise. Spontaneous exercise was not a thing I did. It always had to be planned for.)

I’m not taking an Animation Academy class with semester. I will go back in August. I had drawings I needed to finish. I still haven’t worked on them. I’m going to lose the small number of skills I have if I don’t watch it. Time is the key. Hold on. Let me repeat that in large, bold, and capitalized letters. TIME IS THE KEY!

Eight-hour days were not meant to accommodate having a life. Nine-hour days are even worse. I need to give in and become a teacher after all. Last night, I was working with some music on the computer. I haven’t done any music in a really really really long time. I was playing music into the computer. It felt good. I miss that. Having said all this, I still waste most of the weekends not doing all the things I would like to do.

This Friday, we’re supposed to go to Disneyland. Again, I really wanted the camera, but I won’t get it by Friday. It’s been about 3 months since we’ve been to Disneyland. Someone went recently and had a bad experience there. That involved a stalker, though. We shouldn’t have that problem. (Future note: The good news is I have no idea what the stalker situation was. I think it involved a coworker.) I need to go to lunch now. I’m gone.
