(Future note: The following two entries from 1995 are great examples of my nerdiness, shyness, and continuing pursuit of creative interests that never seemed to lead to an artistic career. I think my shyness was the main reason for my only pursuing creativity as a hobby. On a positive note, I made some real social breakthroughs in Best Buy.)

I was in Best Buy yesterday (Sunday), buying Corel Draw 5. As I picked up the box, a gentleman walking by said, “Wait. Don’t buy it now.” What he meant was Corel Draw 6 was coming out. It was made specifically for Windows 95, so it would be better to buy it later. While I was in line, a woman commented that Corel Draw 5 was too complex for her to understand. I asked her if she had Corel Draw 4. She didn’t. This actually made me feel even better about my purchase because the complexity of the program merely meant it had more features than could be simply understood. As I made my purchase, a woman behind me commented that the $230 I paid was a great deal to pay for just computer stuff. Afterwards, I thought I should have told her the things I was buying were not games or toys. I didn’t feel too bad for what I didn’t say because I normally don’t say anything at all to people. This is the reason I bring up this trip. It’s a change for me. I need to do this talking to people thing more often.
This event shows me it’s not only talking to people that gets one to talking to others, but looking approachable that counts. Either this or they were spraying chemicals near the vents at Best Buy today.

Well, here we are. I’m writing to you from the inner sanctum of Windows 95. I went down to Comp USA on the 24th, the day it came out. At 12:10 pm, I didn’t have to wait in much of a line. This, of course, was just before I went to work at 1:00 pm. I had two glitches in setting it up and now I have two other glitches now that it’s running, but it wasn’t a complete nightmare getting it on my computer.
There are many grand features I know I could get used to. I had to unhook my pen mouse and hook up my old mouse, but it only reminded me how much easier 90% of the things I do on my computer are with just a regular mouse. I think I’ll keep the regular mouse for a while.
I worked on some comedy sketches this weekend to send to Atlantis Entertainment for a “possible future television production.” I figure it’s a good place to start in sending out my material since it’s easy to do because comedy sketches are so short (for my short attention span). (Note from the future: I guess it’s good I’m still trying, but, once again, the sketches never even made it to Atlantis Entertainment because the address was not correct, though it was the address they wrote in their ad. The future greatness of Brian is postponed again.)
