Thoughts from August 5 and 6, 1995

August 5, 1995

My race for developing the mighty computer continues. By all indications, I should be in a small room with pads on all the walls, so I don’t hurt myself. As it is, I have several bruises and cuts on my hands and arms from hitting assorted items around the room. I’m sure the items themselves can give you their own accounts of the war they have just been through. Basically, I tried to access the 32-bit side of my hard drives only to find out that my drives do not have 32-bit access. Too much money and not enough sleep later, I have two feet to show for my seven-mile run.

One thing I haven’t tried out is the modem with the new I/O card I bought. See you in the funny farm. (Future note: As you can see, there was no hiding my computer nerd status. It not only dates me but labels me as a dateless nerd with anger management problems. I wasn’t kidding about the bruises and cuts on my hands and arms. I have always been a patient person, but the inside of a 1995 era computer can test the patients of anyone. You try things. It doesn’t work. You try other things and they don’t work either. Eventually, you find something that works, but it breaks something else. When you’re the only computer nerd you know, it’s a lonely and frustrating world.)

August 6, 1995

(Future note: Building on the theme of yesterday, my only entries today were a list of things I should do and another list of things I want to do.)

Things I should do today:

  1. Buy new clothes (especially underwear)
  2. Finish painting my room
  3. Clean my sleeping room (yes, I have a separate room just for sleeping)
  4. Move my weight set into my room

Things I want to do today:

  1. Go to Circuit City and buy a 32-bit hard drive (need to check whether I can fit another hard drive in my computer first)
  2. Find a girl I instantly connect with and, a year from now, decide I still love her and ask her to marry me the day after my job at Disney goes through
  3. Have the courage to say something beyond “hello” and “thank you” to a stranger (especially an attractive female stranger)
  4. Go to the beach with someone (perhaps my future wife that I will meet today)
  5. Not sneeze or have my throat hurt
